Superintendent’s Article

I wanted to take a few moments to give everyone a quick synopsis of what the 2023-24 school year holds as your students return to campus this Thursday.  Much remodeling took place this summer!  Every elementary classroom received a fresh look and I really appreciate the patience of the elementary teachers through this process!  The elementary and middle school offices also received a complete makeover.  The middle school and high school hallways received new flooring, while the high school received new tile on their hallway walls.  Most bathrooms in the entire district have been updated.  The metal awning that wraps around the auditorium was torn down and replaced.  The cafeteria received new flooring and wall tile.  Still pending is a new sign to be located at the corner of 7th and Cherokee.

Longer term construction projects that have been completed are:  1.  The Agriculture Education facility, with a new powder coating booth.  2.  The high school science lab.  3.  The STEM room.

As discussed in previous articles, security is of utmost importance to us here at Lindsay Public Schools.  We continued to work on security measures this summer by sending administrators to security training.   They all received a permit to carry a firearm on school campus.  Research has shown that most school shooters prefer soft targets.  We wish to be anything but!  This will give us six armed security guards at our school, led by Officer Randy Ramming!  We have completed other levels of security including:  magnetic locks, security film on windows, cameras in the classrooms, and the rave panic button that immediately notifies a host of different law enforcement agencies should a situation arise!  The most important level is YOU!  Teach your children and please practice yourself, if you see or hear something, say something!

We were blessed to be able to hire new personnel that we believe will make a huge difference in your children’s education.  We now have three elementary reading specialists and a fifth grade writing teacher!

I am sure many have wondered about the progress of the football field project this summer and if we would be ready in time. Because of winter kill on the grass, we were forced to replace it.  While at it, we were able to re-grade it to provide better drainage!  Kudos to Jerry Tucker, Destry Nunley, and their crew for a job well done!

I look forward to seeing all those smiling faces as they return to a fresh new campus!  Please don’t hesitate to call if I can be of any assistance in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Chuck Karpe
